Apple WWDC 2019: A new Mac Pro and tons of new software updates took center stage

On June 3, Apple’s 2019 WWDC took place, and the main stars of the event were a new Mac Pro and a whole array of updates for their software offerings across all devices.

In recent years, the Cupertino-based tech giant has been putting more focus on their software offering and keeping the hardware on a lesser note due to the decrease in the number of devices released every year.

Software: Faster, safer and more specialized

Among the introductions, one of the most important was the presentation of the newest version of their MAC OS, named Catalina. Some of its latest features are the use of the iPad as a second display, voice control of all functionalities, and the dismiss of iTunes, turning into three separate apps.

Additionally, the iPad gets its separate OS, Apple TV’s TVOS got updated, and the iWatch now will enjoy its exclusive app store.

Also, IOS 13 got Dark Mode, and updates apps, newer security protocols, and SwiftUI became the framework to more simple coding.

Topping up the software side, Siri will now use a different and more natural voice, offering new features for Carplay and Airpods.

The Mac Pro is back and more powerful than ever

Six years after its latest upgrade, the Mac Pro gets a complete transformation, with robust sets of specs and innovative design.

On the inside, the new Mac Pro supports Intel Xeon processor up with up to 28 cores and up to 1.5TB of memory.

It also comes with six slots for memory expansion and eight PCI slots, three Thunderbolt ports, two USB-C, and two USB-A ports for extra customization and processing power.

On the graphics department, a new processing card handles up to three streams of 8K or 12 streams of 4K.

The Pro Display XDR monitor is a 32-inch LCD screen with a Retina 6K display, with what Apple calls “Extreme Dynamic Range,” or XDR, capable of connecting six displays for up to 120 million pixels.

The Mac Pro will arrive at the market on the fall of 2019, with a base price of $5,999, and the monitor for $4,999.
